T20 World Cup 2021, SA vs BAN: Proteas get closer to semifinals with 6 wickets win over Bangladesh

T20 World Cup is in the super 12 stage and South Africa defeated Bangladesh in the first half of the double header in a dominant fashion.

Proteas have taken one more step towards the semifinals with this dominant victory over Bangladesh.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl first. Proteas bowled out Bangladesh on 84 and then chased the score with 6 wickets and 39 balls remaining.

Kagiso Rabada was awarded with the player of the match for his splendid bowling spell of 3 wickets for 20 runs in four overs and helped his team finish Bangladesh on a low score.

Match Summary

South Africa won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. Naim and Liton Das came to open the innings for Bangladesh.

The Openers failed to gave their team a start as Naim got out in the 4th over itself. He got out after scoring 9 runs of 11 balls on Rabada’s delivery.

Rabada gave Bangladesh another blow in the very next ball in form of Soumya Sarkar. He got dismissed on the golden duck.

Proteas threw Bangladesh completely on the backfoot when Rabada gave Bangladesh another blow in his very next over as he dismissed Mushfiqur Rahim on duck.

Anrich Nortje gave Proteas their fourth wicket in the 8th over and this time it was the skipper himself. Mahmudullah could only score 3 runs of 9 balls.

Dwaine Pretorius dismissed Afif Hossain in the 9th over on a golden duck. Bangladesh lost their five wickets on the score of 34.

Liton Das was progressing the scoreboard from one end before his departure in the 12th over. Das lost his wicket after scoring 24 runs of 36 balls on Shamsi’s ball.

Mahedi Hasan played a crucial knock for his side when rest of the batting line-up crumbled in front of the Proteas bowling.

Hasan scored 27 runs of 25 balls and helped his side put 84 on board from a point where even that seemed quite impossible.

Anrich Nortje striked twice in two consecutive balls in the 19th over to finish the Bangladesh’s inning. He dismissed Hasan and Nasun Ahmed.

Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks came to open the innings for South Africa and chase the target.

The openers failed to gave their team a start as Hendricks got out in the first over itself after scoring just 4 runs of 5 balls on Taskin Ahmed’s delivery.

Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen progressed the scoreboard for a while until De Kock’s departure in the fifth over. He lost his wicket to Mahedi Hasan after scoring 16 of 15 balls.

Taskin Ahmed striked again in the sixth over and dismissed Aiden Markram on duck.

The skipper Bavuma joined Van Der Dussen in the middle and progressed the rest of the innings.

South Africa lost their last wicket in the 13th over in form of Rassie van der Dussen. He got out after scoring 22 runs of 27 balls.

Then Miller came to the crease and smashed a boundary to take his team to victory.

This victory has provided Proteas a big lead over the group rival Australia ahead of the semi finals.
