T20 World Cup has finally reached the super 12 stage and Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh in the first half of the double header by 5 wickets.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bangladesh batting first scored 171 at the loss of 4 wickets and the Lankan Lions managed to chase the score with 5 wickets remaining.
There was a little heated moment too in the Bangladesh’s inning between opener Liton Das and Sri Lankan bowler Lahiru Kumara.
Charith Asalanka was awarded with the player of the match for his match winning knock of 80 runs in just 49 balls. His half century played a crucial role in his side’s victory.
Sri Lanka won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first. Naim and Das came to open the innings for Bangladesh.
Both even managed to gave team a good and steady start until the sixth over when Lahiru Kumara dismissed Liton Das.
Liton Das got out after scoring 16 runs. After getting the wicket of Das, Lahiru went up to him and exchanged some words and Liton Das did not appreciated it but the umpires and members of both team separated them before things could have gone worse.
Bangladesh lost their second wicket in a short span again and this time in form of Shakib Al Hasan in the eighth over. He got out after scoring 10 runs of 7 balls.
Then came Mushfiqur Rahim to the middle and progressed the team’s scoreboard along with Mohammad Naim.
Naim even completed his half century and both batsmen did a 73 runs partnership in the middle overs and provided team with much needed support.
Fernando did take the wicket of Naim in the 17th over but Naim played an outstanding innings of 62 of 52 balls for his team before his departure.
Rahim continued the attack on Sri Lankan bowling and even completed his half century in just 32 balls. Bangladesh lost their last wicket in form of run out by Lahiru Kumara.
Skipper Mahmudullah came to replace Hossain and played a quick cameo of 10 runs in 5 balls. Rahim returned after scoring an unbeaten 57 of 37 balls.
Rahim and Naim’s half century helped Bangladesh reach the score of 171 in 20 overs at the loss of 4 wickets.
Perera and Nissanka came to open the Innings. Sri Lanka lost Perera in the first over itself on the score of 2.
Then Asalanka came to join Nissanka and fired some shots from the start. Both batsmen did a much needed partnership of 69 runs.
Shakib Al Hasan gave Bangladesh their second breakthrough in the ninth over in form of Nissanka. He got out after scoring 24 of 21 balls.
Shakib Al Hasan striked again in the same over and this time it was Fernando. He returned to pavalion on duck.
