TATA IPL 2022 finally lifted its curtains with the 6 wickets victory of Kolkata Knight Riders over Chennai Super Kings in the first match of the 15th season.
KKR won the toss and elected to bowl first and managed to restrict CSK on 131 at the loss of 5 wickets and then chased it with 6 wickets and 9 balls remaining.
MS Dhoni smashed a crucial and unbeaten half century of 50 runs of 38 balls and helped CSK reach a respectable total.
Ajinkya Rahane scored the most runs from the KKR side as he finished his innings on 44 runs of 34 delivery.
KKR’s Victory
Umesh Yadav gave KKR a great start in the first over as it ended with just 3 runs but grabbed the crucial wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer came to open the Innings for Kolkata Knight Riders and chase the target.
Both of them provided KKR with a steady start and KKR managed to not lose any wicket in the powerplay.
They joined a 43 runs partnership in the powerplay with Rahane scoring 27 runs and Venkatesh Iyer 16.
Although KKR faced their first blow as soon as the powerplay came to an end in the seventh over in form of Venkatesh Iyer to Dwayne Bravo.
Nitish Rana gave team a blitzing push before his departure with some blazing shots and helped put KKR in a strong position.
Rahane smashed a crucial knock of 44 runs of 34 balls and helped to set the base of victory for the Knights.
Shreyas Iyer and Sam Billings gave team the required finished and chased the 132 runs target with 6 wickets and 9 balls remaining.
