Tokyo Paralympics: Sumit Antil of India won gold in the men’s javelin (F64) event at the Tokyo Paralympics, setting a new world record with a throw of 68.55 metres.
During the final in Tokyo on Monday, Sumit Antil broke the world record not once, not twice, but three times.
In his first effort to set the new world mark, he threw a 66.95, but in his second attempt, he threw a 66.96, which he bettered.
Then, in his fifth attempt, he broke the world record once more with a throw of 68.55 metres.
Sandeep Chaudhary, another Indian, finished fourth in the event with a best throw of 62.20m.
Michal Burian of Australia won silver with a best attempt of 66.29 metres, while Dulan Kodithuwakku of Sri Lanka won bronze.

Antil threw down the marker with his first throw, putting him in first place and breaking the existing world record in the F64 category, which he also created.
In his second attempt, he broke the world record with a throw of 68.08 metres.
His third and fourth efforts were 65.27 and 66.71, respectively, but he appeared to have already clinched the gold medal, with none of his rivals posing a serious threat.
Then, in his fifth attempt, he threw 68.55m to win India’s second gold medal at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics.
Meanwhile, Avani Lekhara, a shooter, made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics.
India has already set a record for the most medals won at the Paralympic Games, with eight.
