The on-field umpiring in the present World Test Championship final, which involved on-field umpire Richard Illingworth, has sparked heated controversy among fans, including former cricketer Virender Sehwag.

When India skipper Virat Kohli attempted to nudge a delivery down the leg-side in the second session of Day 2. Shortly after Cheteshwar Pujara’s departure, the incident occurred.

Bowler Trent Boult went for a major caught-behind appeal as the ball went past the bat and into the wicketkeeper’s gloves, prompting his skipper Kane Williamson to request a review.

However, time ran out before the Kiwis could make a judgement. And it appear that the proceedings would go without interruption.

But what happened next added to the uncertainty, leading Kohli to speak with umpire Illingworth.

And soon after, former India cricketer Virender Sehwag took to Twitter to express his displeasure

Despite Williamson’s failure to take a review, the TV umpire was involved, and the commentators later emphasised that an umpire review was taken.

The fact that UltraEdge was being observe. Despite the fact that it was an umpire review, generated a lot of discussion online.

Virat Kohli remained in the middle when a TV replay revealed there was no connection between the bat and the ball.

Meanwhile, Sehwag took to Twitter and wrote: “Funny umpiring there with Virat. No decision given by the umpire and it automatically became a review.”
