BENGALURU (AP) — Yuzvendra Chahal, the Indian spin bowler currently not in the national squad, has made headlines in England's County Championship by taking nine wickets in a recent match. Despite his absence from the ongoing Duleep Trophy and the Test series against Bangladesh, Chahal continues to shine with his spin prowess abroad.

Playing for Northamptonshire, Chahal demonstrated exceptional form in the County Championship, claiming nine wickets in a single match against Derbyshire. In the 47th fixture of the Championship, which took place at Northampton's County Ground, Chahal's performance was pivotal in securing a significant victory.

Northamptonshire, batting first, was dismissed for 219 runs. Chahal then dismantled Derbyshire's batting lineup, taking 5 wickets for just 45 runs in 16.3 overs. His spell led to Derbyshire being bowled out for 165 runs.

In the second innings, despite a modest target of 266 runs, Derbyshire faced another setback from Chahal. The leg-spinner claimed 4 more wickets for 54 runs across 18 overs, resulting in Derbyshire being dismissed for just 132 runs.

Chahal's remarkable performance helped Northamptonshire secure a commanding win by 133 runs. With these nine wickets, Chahal has reached a milestone of 100 first-class wickets, further showcasing his skill and consistency in spin bowling.

Chahal's absence from India's national squad, including the Duleep Trophy and the Bangladesh Test series, has been notable, but his recent success in English county cricket highlights his ongoing contributions to the sport.
