Fixing PAN-Aadhaar name mismatch: All you need to know

Published Date:

Your name, gender, and date of birth must be the same in both documents for Aadhaar and PAN to be linked. The taxpayer may be asked to change their name in either the Aadhaar or PAN databases if the Aadhaar name is entirely different from their name in the PAN database and the connection fails.

PAN will stop functioning as of April 1, 2023, after the final deadline for linking PAN to Aadhaar on March 31, 2023.

You can change your information in the PAN or Aadhaar databases so that both have the proper information if you are unable to link your PAN and Aadhaar because your name, phone number, or date of birth are incorrect.

The UIDAI website states that “One Time Password (Aadhaar OTP) would be supplied to the cellphone registered with Aadhaar in case of any small inconsistency in Aadhaar Name provided by taxpayer when compared to the actual data in Aadhaar.” Taxpayers must make sure that the gender and date of birth on their PAN and Aadhaar are identical.

How to modify a PAN card’s name, phone number, or DOB

Step 1: Go to NSDL Online by clicking on this link: https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html.

Step 2: From the “application type” dropdown, choose “PAN correction,” then enter your personal information.

Step 3: Complete the Captcha and click the Submit button.

Step 4: A message and token number will be sent to you.

Step 5: Choose the PAN Application Form button and continue. The page for the online PAN application will be redirected to you.

Step 6: Review and correct any errors in the preview form’s information before continuing to the payment stage.

Once all the information has been submitted and the payment has been made, an acknowledgment sheet will be produced. You must print it out and deliver it, along with tangible documentation, to the NSDL e-gov office.

How to update Aadhaar’s demographic information

Name, address, DoB, gender, mobile number, email address, and biometric information like fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs can all be updated in Aadhaar.

Step 1: Visit https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/.

Step 2: Choose “Login.”

Step 3: Type in your Aadhaar number, solve the captcha, and click “Send OTP.” You will receive an OTP on the registered mobile number you provided.

Step 4: Input the OTP and press the “Login” button. Remember that an OTP is only good for 10 minutes.

Step 5: After signing in, select “Update Aadhaar online” to change your Aadhaar’s name, date of birth, gender, address, and language.

Step 6: Decide which Aadhaar information has to be changed. All documents should be scanned and kept on hand. The Aadhaar card’s data would need to be updated with these documents. Click “Proceed to update Aadhaar” when you are completed. There is a cap on the number of updates you can make, so keep that in mind.

Step 7: Your most recent information will be shown on a new page. Input the information that needs to be changed, then attach the required files. Get a preview of the recently added details and make a payment.

An update request number (URN) will be generated following payment. Your acknowledgement copy is also available for download.
