Google has begun rolling out the new Chat tab in Gmail. Currently it is in ‘early access.’ Google had rolled this feature earlier last year.

For its G Suite users, Google began rolling out new dedicated tabs for Rooms, Meet, and Google Chat in the Gmail app last year. But now it is extending the support for all Android users for free.

Users can turn it on by going into the settings.

How to enable Google Chat Tab in Gmail

Open Gmail app on your Android phone. Tap on the three horizontal lines at the top left to open the hamburger menu. Scroll down and go to ‘Settings’ menu.

Here you will see a new ‘Chat (Early Access)’ option. Tap the checkbox to enable it. In your inbox in the Gmail app, you will see two new tabs in the bottom navigation bar.

Currently this feature is in early access on Android. It should be available for iOS users in the coming weeks.

If you cannot find the option in the app on your Android device, you should update the Gmail app.
