Many Twitter users are switching to alternative social networking sites because they are convinced that Elon Musk, the company’s new owner, would bring about its imminent collapse. Hive Social, which has experienced a significant increase in popularity over the past several days, is one such Twitter substitute.
According to Kassandra Pop, the founder of the social media network Hive, the number of subscribers recently achieved 1 million. It has been compared to a hybrid of Twitter and Instagram and even includes features from Tumblr and Myspace.

Hive offers a certain level of familiarity for many of its new users that other Twitter alternatives do not. Mastodon, a prominent decentralised social network and one of the most used Twitter alternatives at the moment, has its own set of issues. Users have stated that the sign-up process is challenging and that it feels much more complicated than Twitter.
Users are migrating to Hive Social.
Hive Social has risen to the top 20 of the US App Store and is emerging as one of the most viable Twitter alternatives. However, it is worth noting that approximately 86% of Hive’s total downloads have originated outside of the United States. The surge in downloads began on Friday and continued through the weekend, bringing the total to one million users.
According to Sensor Tower data, approximately 2,14,000 of Hive’s total 7,33,000 lifetime instals came in the last month alone. The app moved up from 338 to 20 during this period, becoming one of the most popular apps. The app is ranked 17th in the United Kingdom, but has yet to crack the top 20 in Canada.
Hive Social: What is it?
Hive Social, a platform hybrid, was founded in 2019 by 20-year-old Kassandra Pop. Although it borrows features from Myspace and Tumblr, it is primarily seen as a hybrid of Twitter and Instagram.
How does Twitter compare to Hive Social?
Similar navigation choices are available, including tabs for accessing user profiles, timeline viewing, discover, and notifications. Additionally, it contains a button in the middle that users can utilise to add a new post. It also utilises Twitter’s model of followers.
What differs Hive Social from Twitter?
Unlike Twitter, the app allows users to post without a character limit and has a different revenue model that does not rely on advertisements. Hive’s payment model allows users to pay extra fees to unlock new features. This appears to be the model that Twitter CEO Elon Musk would like to implement.
Although it has the familiarity of Twitter, users have complained that it is more complicated. Users claim that it has a challenging sign-up process and a variety of other problems. It has a different section where users can learn about their interests with topics like tech, cars, food, gaming, and so forth. It is not just a timeline-based platform like Twitter. Similar to other social media platforms, it enables users to comment on, repost, and share content. Users can also click on a hashtag to dive deeper into specific topics and explore topics of interest or topics that appear to be trending.
What challenges might Hive Social face?
The fact that this social media platform is operated by two people could be a serious issue. Only two individuals are in charge of managing the app, design, marketing, and everything else. Although amazing, it raises concerns about the app’s scalability. It will become increasingly challenging to provide a technically sound app as more users sign up for the platform, as there have already been reports about the app’s loading latency.
Another problem is that there isn’t a desktop version of the programme, so users can only use it on their mobile phones. For those users who genuinely use Twitter on their PCs, this can be discouraging.
Users of the Twitter substitute will have to keep track of comments because the Twitter replacement does not allow users to thread Tweets. As there is no visible thumbnail, you are essentially limited to sharing the link when you want to embed Hive posts or share articles. Additionally, you won’t be able to search for people using their names; instead, you’ll need to use the exact name of their handle.
