Hope for a Resolution: Korean Ambassador Hints at Efforts to Bring BGMI Back to India

Published Date:

Since MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) restricted BGMI in India in July, the game hasn’t been played there for more than four months. However, many people have become aware of a comment made about the title in October 2022.

According to sources, H.E. Mr. Chang Jae-Bok, the South Korean ambassador to India, addressed before the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee hearing in New Delhi, India, about the companies and laws of the East Asian nation. He responded to a query from Rep. Kim Hong-gul regarding the BGMI circumstance.

The following is what the ambassador said:

India explained why it was blocking the game by citing worries about cyber security breaches and game violence.

He declared his intention to make things right by saying:

Tencent, a Chinese firm, previously provided support for Battlegrounds (Mobile India), however there are concerns that India still believes that it is receiving support from a Chinese company. As a result, we are working to find a solution.

Although H.E. Mr. Chang Jae-remarks Bok’s were given in October 2022, they are nonetheless significant in light of Battlegrounds Mobile India’s current situation. Similar claims have been made by Krafton, with the most recent one coming from the company’s Q3 earnings report.

In response to the BGMI situation, the developers stated in a press release:

KRAFTON will keep investing in the Indian games business while working to restore services for BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA (BGMI).

These assertions highlight the significance of the Indian gambling business. Due to the absence of Battlegrounds Mobile India, Krafton has suffered a serious blow.

According to rumours, Krafton will lower the price of its shares. The suspension of Battlegrounds Mobile India and the rules Krafton must follow in China may be the causes of this. According to reports, the ban on Battlegrounds Mobile India has slowed down the rise of sales for Krafton’s current titles.

Interestingly, despite the ban on BGMI, the company has not exited the Indian gaming market. PUBG: New State, a second Krafton-supported BR shooter, is still operating in the nation, and The Callisto Protocol has entered the market through a variety of platforms. A subsidiary of the business is also working on the real-time tactical defence smartphone game Defense Derby, which is also due to launch soon.
