An American technology news website, the instant messaging service WhatsApp has finally begun rolling out picture-in-picture mode for video conversations on iOS.
The outlet claims that this function, which WhatsApp originally started experimenting with last year, allows users to open other apps without interfering with video calls.
Similar to FaceTime’s picture-in-picture mode, WhatsApp will shrink your video call into a tiny window that sits on top of whichever app you browse to. This makes it possible for you to take part in the call while researching a topic online, reading a relevant book, or even playing a game.
Users of the most recent version of WhatsApp for iOS (version 23.3.77) now have access to picture-in-picture mode, though you may need to wait a little while before using it because WhatsApp says this feature will roll out “over the coming weeks” along with the other few features included in the update, according to The Verge.
Examples of this include the addition of editable avatars that you can use as profile images and stickers, support for longer group descriptions, and the ability to add subtitles when sending documents.
The Verge reports that earlier this month, WhatsApp also unveiled brand-new status features that let users share their updates with a specific group of people, respond to someone else’s update with an emoji, record voice updates, and more.
