Google has scheduled an event for February 8 where it intends to demonstrate cutting-edge technology for the development of search and artificial intelligence (AI).
However, the company has stated that it is “reimagining how people search for, explore, and engage with information, making it more natural and intuitive than ever before to locate what you need.”
Many believe that the occasion will allow people to see Google’s ChatGPT rival, the OpenAI-created natural language chatbot that has taken the world by storm, for the first time.
ChatGPT has 100 million active users just over two months after its introduction, and the threat it poses is quite real. Why waste time browsing through dozens of sites when you can ask the bot to find what you’re looking for?
In order to compete with ChatGPT, Google has already proclaimed “code-red” and is moving quickly with its AI technologies. Even co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin were summoned by CEO Sundar Pichai to assess their AI plans.
Google’s AI models will soon be available for public use, according to Pichai, who stated this on a recent earnings call. Users will be able to “interact directly with our newest, most powerful language models as a companion to Search in experimental and innovative ways.”
According to PCMag, Google developers are already testing a ChatGPT-like application known as “Apprentice Bard,” a LaMDA-based natural language model. LaMDA is more current and can respond to questions about current occurrences, whereas ChatGPT only offers information about events that occurred up until 2021.
On February 8 at 7:00 IST, a live feed of the Google event will begin.
