Those who were anxiously awaiting news on the Apple iPhone SE 4 now have some good news. The iPhone SE 4 is predicted to resemble the iPhone 14 in many aspects, according to several reports. Analyst from TF International Securities Ming Chi Kuo gave the information. However, the analyst had earlier in January 2023 stated that Apple had in fact stopped producing the iPhone SE 4. The supply chain has received instructions from Apple stating that the manufacturing and shipment plans for the 2024 iPhone SE 4 have been cancelled rather than delayed, the analyst had previously stated via Medium.
The main change in the upcoming iPhone SE 4 will be the OLED display, which will replace the LCD, and an inside 5G baseband, per Kuo’s updates. “The iPhone SE 4 has been restarted by Apple, and it will employ a custom 5G baseband chip. It seems inevitable that Qualcomm’s Apple orders would significantly fall in the near future “Tweeted he.
“According to my most current poll, Apple has recently restarted the iPhone SE 4, which will have the biggest modification—an OLED display rather than an LCD—as the primary upgrade. Overall, the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 is barely altered by the SE 4 “Kuo noted in a subsequent tweet.
The expert also said that the next iPhone SE 4 will only support Sub-6GHz as of now and will include Apple’s 5G baseband chip manufactured using a 4nm technology (similar to 5nm). The usage of Apple’s 5G baseband processor in the iPhone 16 series is still up in the air, though. The fundamental issue is whether Apple can get past the mmWave and satellite communications technical barriers.
According to him, the iPad and Apple Watch, which have less demanding technological specifications, would soon stop using Qualcomm’s baseband processors as well, assuming the SE 4’s mass production runs smoothly in 1H24.
This decision will increase Apple’s hardware gross margin while sharply decreasing Qualcomm’s Apple business over the next two to three years.
