At the ongoing CES 2023, South Korean tech giant Samsung showcased an smartphone OLED panel that can achieve a peak brightness of more than 2,000 nits.
UL Solutions certified the UDR (Ultra Dynamic Range) 2,000 luminance mark and it represents the pinnacle of Samsung’s mobile display technology.
The peak brightness value is also in line with the recently announced S95C and S90C quantum dot OLED TVs. Samsung Display also got a UDR 1500 nits luminance rating on its new panel.
Samsung claims that the new UDR panel displays more realistic and rich colours, which will be especially noticeable during outdoor use.
So, which Samsung phone will have the new UDR smartphone display? Well, it remains to be seen. Though the chances are high that it could be the upcoming Galaxy S23 series, according to reports.
Samsung Display already supplies OLED panels for Apple and the iPhone 14 Pro series offers up to 2,000 nits peak brightness for HDR content.
Meanwhile, Samsung Display recently introduced its latest product, the Flex Hybrid OLED, a panel that folds and slides. These panels will be used in future smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
