The instant messaging service owned by Meta is apparently aiming to roll out a new significant feature on its platform in the upcoming months, which is good news for WhatsApp users all around the world. A fresh report claims that WhatsApp is developing a new function to mute calls from unknown numbers.
In a future update of the programme, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that would let users block calls from unknown numbers while still displaying them in the calls list and notification centre. With this function, you can potentially prevent spam calls and cut down on interruptions, according to WABetaInfo, a website that follows WhatsApp.
According to the source, the messaging service, which is owned by Meta, is actively developing a new feature that will let users block calls from arbitrary numbers. When the toggle is turned on, calls from unidentified numbers are always muted but are still shown in the call history and notification centre. The toggle is found in the app’s settings.
This new function may also dramatically reduce spam calls for users. According to a source, spam calls have become an increasing issue in recent years due to scammers’ uninvited calls, and instant messaging apps are no exception.
Due to this functionality, users will now be able to stop receiving calls from unknown numbers, which are frequently connected with spam calls, simply muting them. Presently, WhatsApp offers the option to block and report these callers. A future update to the app will include a function that would allow users to block calls from unidentified numbers.
In related news, WhatsApp is working on a new makeover of its iOS attachment menu that will hopefully bring it in line with the one already present on WhatsApp for Android. Still under development, the new chat attachment option is anticipated to appear in a subsequent application version.
