Secure your Twitter account without breaking the Bank

Published Date:

A security feature called two-factor authentication (2FA) aids in preventing hackers from accessing your Twitter account. To access their accounts, users must input a password and a security code or key. The text message/SMS mode of 2FA will no longer be available to accounts unless they are Twitter Blue users, according to a recent announcement from Twitter. The new regulation will go into force on March 20.

With the yearly plan, Twitter Blue costs $6,800 (or $566.87 per month), while for the monthly plan, it costs 650 (or $7,800) every month. It gives anyone who is prepared to pay for one a blue checkmark on their account. Users of Twitter Blue can edit tweets, upload 1080p movies, and post lengthier videos, among other capabilities.

It’s really simple to switch from text/SMS 2FA if you don’t want to pay for Twitter Blue or are concerned about losing your account. This article will walk you through the process of changing from Twitter’s phone-based 2FA to more secure alternatives.

Step 1: Launch Twitter

Start by accessing Twitter using your smartphone or a website.

Step 2: Choose Account Access and Security

Click on Account Access and Security.

Step 3: Choose Two-Factor Authentication

To select Two-Factor Authentication, click Security.

Step 4: Choose Your Favorite 2FA Technique

Three choices will now be presented to you.

Text message – Using this approach, you can log into Twitter by receiving a text message on your phone that contains an authentication number. If you don’t want to pay, you must skip this.

Security key – To log into Twitter using this technique, you must physically enter a security key into your computer or sync one from your mobile device. You need a physical authentication key like the YubiKey for a security key, but make sure it works with your browser, such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.

App for mobile authentication – With this technique, you can obtain a verification number to enter each time you log in to Twitter. Choose any authenticator app of your choosing, such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator.

This approach is advised because it doesn’t require a separate security gadget to protect your account. All you need is an authenticator app on your smartphone.

Step 5: Comply with the Directions

You can link your Twitter account to your authenticator app once you scan the QR code for your account. You must secure Twitter by adding the security key. You will receive a private security key from Twitter, which you must keep safe in case of emergency, such as when you misplace the authentication app. Twitter will advise you to store this one-time backup code in a secure location. You’ll also receive a confirmation email.

You must protect your Twitter account from hackers. A security element that aids in this is two-factor authentication, however it’s essential to select a reputable and trustworthy 2FA technique. This article will make it simple for you to change from Twitter’s phone-based 2FA to more secure alternatives.
