Telegram is widely recognised as a feature-rich app that offers much more functionality than its competitors like WhatsApp and Signal.
In 2021, after WhatsApp announced that it is updating its privacy policy, several people switched to Telegram, Signal and other alternative apps.
Well, here are the five advanced Telegram features that every user must know:
Five advanced Telegram features
1. Video editing with color correction

Telegram offers you the option to edit photos and videos before you send them to your contact. However, the editor is not just the basic crop and flip tool, it is a complete editing package with options like an RGB curve (Red, Green, Blue).
You can use this to correct your videos. You even get an option to adjust things like saturation, contrast, exposure, etc.
How to use: Select a video you wish to send to your contact. You will find options for cropping, adjusting, and adding elements. After setting the adjustments, tap the Send button.
2. Proxy server

Telegram’s Proxy server feature lets users hide their IP address by connecting to a custom Proxy server. It works similar to a VPN connection and is only intended for advanced users who know what they are doing.
Although a proxy is not as secure as a VPN connection, it has the advantage of not affecting the speed of the Internet.
How to use: To configure a proxy server on Telegram, go to Settings and tap Data and Storage. Find the Proxy Settings window where you can enable it and enter your server details.
3. Set reminders

Telegram’s “Saved Messages” feature is very useful and it’s more than just saving text messages. Users can save all kinds of important files that will be stored on Telegram’s secure cloud.
They can then access them from any device they are signed in. However, you can also set a reminder within the Saved Messages space.
How to use: Go to the Telegram Hamburger menu and select Saved Messages. Enter your reminder message. Instead of taping on “Send”, press and hold “Send” to select “Set a reminder.” You can then choose when the telegram should remind you of the task.
4. Slow mode in groups

Telegrams groups can contain up to 2,000,000 members. This may become problematic in terms of spamming. But Telegram has a solution to this – the slow mode feature for groups.
If you turn on this mode, members will be able to send one message per a preset amount of time. For example, if the group admin set it to 30 seconds, the members can only send only one message every 30 seconds.
How to use: Tap on the group name and select the edit icon (pencil shaped). Go to Permissions and find the slow mode setting at the bottom of the page.
5. Polls

Telegram also offers option to set up quizzes and polls in groups. They work the same as Twitter polls. Group admin can set up anonymous or visible polls.
How to use: Go to the group and tap the attach icon (paper clip). Here, scroll through the icons at the bottom of your recent photos and select the poll icon.
