Mobvoi teased that its forthcoming TicWatch Pro would run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 and W5+ Gen 1 SoCs for wearables and have a 50% longer battery life a few days after the launch event of the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 and W5+ Gen 1 SoCs for wearables last year. The teaser revealed the textured rim of the TicWatch Pro 3’s replacement. While the firm only disclosed the gear’s frame, leaker Kuba Wojciechowski published a render of what could be the TicWatch Pro 5, providing us with our first glimpse at the device.
Mobvoi is a Chinese corporation, so it’s not surprising that it’s dropped the number “4” in favour of “5”.
For those who are unaware, there is a Chinese superstition that regards the number “four” as a symbol of bad luck/death.
Furthermore, the render highlights a few design differences that distinguish it from its predecessor. The two crowns that let you to operate your TicWatch Pro 3 are no longer there. Instead, you’ll just have one crown in the centre to utilise with your TicWatch Pro 5. As previously stated, it will have a textured rim rather than the smooth frame of the prior model. Finally, the bezel is substantially thinner than on the previous model.
According to the leaker, the watch will ship with Wear OS 3 out of the box. Aside from that, it will have either the basic Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 or the “Plus” model. While we don’t know which chipset will power the device, we do know that it will be one of the first smartwatches to include the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 SoC. These new chipsets appear to be excellent — at least on paper spec sheets — but you’ll have to wait till they’re released to discover more.
