A new feature for iPhone users is being widely rolled out by Meta-owned WhatsApp. According to a report from WaBetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp for iOS 23.5.77 version offers the ability to extract text immediately off an image.
The text detection feature is not mentioned in the update’s changelog, which is available on the Apple App Store. Only the capability of recording a voice note and sharing it via Status is mentioned, along with other functions. WaBetaInfo, however, affirms in its report that more users who install the update will be able to use this feature.
What is the text detection feature in WhatsApp?
Users are able to extract text from photographs posted on WhatsApp thanks to this capability. Users will need to open a text-containing image in order to use the functionality, and then they will see a new button that allows them to copy the text from the image.
Users should be aware that because WhatsApp uses iOS 16 APIs to detect text within photographs, the feature is only available on iOS 16. Moreover, view-once photographs for increased privacy are incompatible with the feature.
A new feature that would make it simpler to identify messages sent by unfamiliar individuals in WhatsApp group chats is apparently being developed by WhatsApp. WaBetaInfo reports that the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.5.12 version has been made available from the Play Store. The function, which substituted numbers with push names in the message bubble in group chats, was implemented by WhatsApp in December 2022.
According to an image included in the report, whenever a user receives a message in a group chat from an unknown contact, the push name rather than the mobile number would appear in the chat list.
After installing the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.5.0.73, the same feature was also made available to some iOS beta testers.
