Google is now introducing a significant update to Wear OS smartwatches that will increase their usefulness when travelling. You may now receive turn-by-turn guidance on your wrist through the wearable platform using Google Maps. And the greatest thing is that for the feature to function, a phone does not need to be paired with the smartwatch.
Users may finally use this feature on their Wear OS-powered smartwatches as long as the device is suitable, since Google first mentioned it a few months ago. If your Wear OS smartwatch supports independent LTE connectivity, which implies it must support SIM cards, you can download the new version.
Additionally, you must have an LTE plan that provides constant connectivity, a crucial component of turn-by-turn directions. The smartwatch must first be linked to the phone once in order to activate this feature; after that, the further actions will begin automatically.
You can stop the phone mirroring feature from the phone’s settings to keep it just available on the wristwatch, even if the capability is accessible on both the phone and the smartwatch (through the phone).
Once your smartwatch satisfies these requirements, launch Google Maps on the Wear OS watch, choose your location, your mode of transportation (using voice commands or a keyboard), and obtain the estimated time of arrival (ETA) for the trip. Once you press the start button, the smartwatch’s turn-by-turn navigation capability will operate independently.
Google is also making more modifications to its mobility products, particularly Android Auto, which has recently undergone an upgrade to a new user interface that supports split-screen viewing, allowing you to run both music and navigation on the same screen. Other updated improvements increase Android Auto’s functionality and user-friendliness while the user is on the run.
