WhatsApp or Signal: Which one should you use?

Soon after WhatsApp rolled out its new privacy policy, it has once again raised major concerns. In the era of multiple platforms and web sharing spaces, the buzz around suggests some new names as a substitute to WhatsApp.

Apps like Signal and Telegram gained much attention after Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted to use the Signal app after WhatsApp rolled out its privacy policy. As per the details available on Apple app store, Signal app is a private messaging app which does not collect any user data.

The signal is a well-known messaging app, widely used by journalists, academics, privacy researchers, security experts around the world. However, Signal is open source while WhatsApp is not. Both the apps acquire users’ purchase history, location details, contacts, phone number, email address and usage data, among others.

On the other hand, Signal does not store much personal information except your phone number. WhatsApp has given prior notice to its 400 million users in India a deadline of February 8, 2021, to accept the terms or delete the account.
