WhatsApp will stop working on these iPhones and Android phones

By the end of 2020, Facebook-owned messaging app WhatsApp will reportedly end support on some old Android and iOS smartphones. At the end of the calendar year, WhatsApp will end support for Android phones and iPhones that run on an dated operating system.

It has been reported that WhatsApp will no longer work on smartphones that don’t run on at least iOS 9 or Android 4.0.3 operating systems.

The WhatsApp support page recommends users to use the latest version of their operating system to take advantage of all the features. The popular chat app said that WhatsApp for iPhone requires iOS 9 or later, while WhatsApp for Android is running on Android 4.0.3 and newer.

While few smartphones currently run on these dated operating systems, it is important to note which specific smartphones are going to lose support for the popular messaging app.

In the case of iPhones, all iPhone models up to iPhone 4 will lose support. This means that those who use iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S will need to update their operating system to iOS 9 or later to continue using WhatsApp.

or Android, WhatsApp will no longer work on smartphones with an Android version earlier than 4.0.3. Here too, few devices currently work with a version of Android earlier than 4.0.3.

However, some of the models are HTC Desire, LG Optimus Black, Motorola Droid Razr, and Samsung Galaxy S2.

There may be other Android smartphones running on an older version of Android and they may lose WhatsApp support as 2020 comes to an end.

Some users may still continue to use WhatsApp on their old smartphones as their operating systems may have received a patch with an update. For others, the only solution might be to get a new smartphone.

How to find your phone’s OS version?

To find out what operating system your phone is running on, iPhone users can find information about their iPhone’s software version in Settings> General> Information. Android users, on the other hand, can see which version of Android their smartphone is running on in Settings> About Phone.

WhatsApp ends support for older iOS and Android smartphones at the end of each calendar year. Last year, WhatsApp stopped supporting smartphones with iOS 8 or older and Android phones with version 2.3.7 or older.
