Wikipedia turned 20 on Friday aiming even higher to reach the next billion user population.

Wikipedia was founded in 2001 by an American-British entrepreneur Jimmy Wales. The collaborative internet encyclopedia is now the seventh-most popular website in the world. Wikipdia has more than 55 million articles being consulted 15 billion times every month.
Wikipedia started out in English language only but was sooner launched in German and Swedish languages. It is now available in 309 languages as of now.

Wikipedia continues to be a volunteer-driven effort and each of its language sites is built up independently from original contributions and not translated articles.

Wikipedia the free encyclopedia has been used by students, scholars, academics, agencies among others for various purposes and knowledge dissemination.
