Will Apple’s foldable iPhone protect against drops?

Published Date:

Now a days patent application, mobile devices having foldable and rollable screens can utilise a sensor to detect vertical acceleration to ascertain whether the device has been dropped.

Tech giant Apple is developing a new technology that would allow flexible screen iPhones and iPads to detect drops and autonomously fold up on impact to minimise damage. ‘Self-Retracting Display Device And Methods For Safeguarding Screen Using Drop Detection’ is the name of the tech giant’s latest patent application, according to AppleInsider.

Regardless of how the device folds at the hinge or if a screen may be removed from a base chassis, the display itself has the ability to decide to separate. Instead of using a potentially brittle hinge, the display may be detached or folded in a way that protects the screen.

The foldable device may at least partially retract if the sensor determines that the mobile device has been dropped in order to protect the fragile display from hitting the ground, it was claimed.
