In a good news to all the WhatsApp fans, the Facebook-owned messaging platform has finally dropped the idea of forcing its users to accept the new privacy policy by May 15. WhatsApp previously required all users to agree to its new privacy policy by May 15 to continue using the services.

However, according to latest reports, the company is no longer asking its users to agree to them and failure to accept the policies will not result in account deletion. WhatsApp has been facing a backlash ever since it introduced its new privacy policy.

What WhatsApp said?

A WhatsApp spokesperson said in a statement that WhatsApp account of users will not be deleted even if they do not agree to the new terms and policies after the May 15 deadline.

“While the majority of users who have received the new terms of service have accepted them, we appreciate some people haven’t had the chance to do so yet. No accounts will be deleted on May 15 because of this update and no one will lose the functionality of WhatsApp either. We will follow up with reminders to people over the next several weeks,” the company said.

However, please note that WhatsApp is only extending the deadline and the users cannot get away by not accepting the new privacy policy.

According to the statement, WhatsApp will send reminders for a few more weeks, but for now, no one will lose access to their accounts, even if they do not immediately accept the new privacy policy.

WhatsApp’s new privacy policy

On February 8, WhatsApp had announced that it will introduce new terms of service and privacy policy. However, due to huge backlash from users, it had to extend the deadline to May 15. Users were not informed much about the new privacy policy. It was reported that WhatsApp would share private information and chats with Facebook.

Due to the ambiguity surrounding the new policies, several users even migrated to other messaging platforms such as Signal and Telegram.

However, WhatsApp issued clarifications about its new terms of service through various campaigns, giving users plenty of time to understand what this really means.
