In a significant development in Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh, the Forest Department has successfully captured the fourth man-eating wolf that had been terrorizing the Mahsi area. Prior to this, three other wolves from the same pack had already been apprehended. The capture took place after the Forest Department set up a trap in the Kachhar region of Sisaia, where the wolf became ensnared.

The news of the fourth wolf's capture has brought a sigh of relief to the local residents. According to the Forest Department, this pack of four wolves had been responsible for the deaths of nine people, including eight children.

Leading the "Operation Wolf" team, Barabanki DFO Akashdeep Badhavan revealed that the captured wolf was lame and was no longer capable of hunting effectively. This condition made it seek out easier prey, which included human children. DFO Badhavan explained that wolves are social animals and typically prefer to stay away from human populations. However, the presence of the lame wolf in Mahsi had led to a series of attacks. After the initial attack, the taste of human flesh had attracted other wolves, leading to a shift in their behavior towards being man-eaters.

The Forest Department has noted that the pack, which was visible through drone cameras, consisted of four wolves. The ongoing terror caused by these wolves has affected 30 villages in the Mahsi tehsil over the past 45 days. The pack has claimed the lives of eight children and one elderly woman, and more than 30 people have been injured in the attacks. The fear of the wolves has been so pervasive that the local population, numbering around 50,000, has resorted to staying awake all night to guard against further attacks.
