What Did the Bengaluru Instagram Influencer Say That Sparked Controversy? Now Issues Clarification

Instagram Influencer Sugandh Sharma Issues Clarification After Bengaluru Video Controversy
Instagram influencer Sugandh Sharma recently found herself at the center of controversy after a video she posted about Bengaluru sparked backlash. In the video, Sugandh made a remark suggesting that if North Indians left Bengaluru, the city would be left empty. Her statement received widespread criticism, with many accusing her of disrespecting the city’s culture and heritage. Following the uproar, Sugandh has now issued a clarification, sharing a new video on Instagram to address the issue.
In her latest video, Sugandh expressed her love for Bengaluru and urged people to view her content with an open mind. She stated, "I love Bengaluru. To all those who are offended by my light-hearted comedy reels, writing offensive comments, or trying to spread hatred by sharing my video, I just want to say that I’m a traveler. Wherever I go, I try to learn and appreciate the local culture."
Sugandh emphasized that her intention was never to insult the city or its people. "I have always respected this city, this state, and all of India because I am a traveler. What we need is to approach things with an open mind. There's no need to 'divide and rule' like the British. Whether it’s the North or the South, all parts of India are one. We don’t need to divide people; we are Indians, not colonizers."
The Controversy
The controversy began when Sugandh posted a video in Bengaluru’s Koramangala area, where she commented, "If North Indians leave Bengaluru, this city will be empty. Even the paying guest rooms will be vacant." Many viewers took offense, perceiving the statement as an insult to the city's cultural identity. Sugandh's clarification video is an attempt to defuse the tension and explain the intent behind her initial remarks.
