Parking Fee Delay Fine: A shocking incident occurred in Derby, UK, where a woman was fined ₹2 lakh (£1,906) for a 5-minute delay in paying her parking fee. Rozie Hudson explained that she couldn't make the payment on time due to poor phone signal.

According to Hudson, she needed to roam around to identify a network area, and meanwhile, Excel Parking Limited had served her with 10 parking charge notices. The parking company states that every user is expected to pay within 5 minutes of parking vehicles.

Hudson has been using the Copeland Street car park since February 2023, and when she tried to pay, she found that the parking machine was faulty, so she used the mobile app to pay. According to Hudson, the 5-minute rule is utterly unreasonable because it targets mothers and busy people like them; it is unfair to restrict such a short time limit.

She explains to the BBC that she had difficulty receiving a good signal and had to use Wi-Fi inside a shop to make the payment on the app. This is an issue that raises a lot of concern regarding whether the strict regulations regarding parking are fair, especially with regard to delays caused by factors out of one's control.
