Elon Musk Introduces Major Changes to X's Privacy Policy: What It Means for Users

Elon Musk's company, X (formerly Twitter), has announced significant changes to its privacy policy, which will come into effect from November 15, 2024. This update allows the platform to use users' posts for training its artificial intelligence (AI) models and sharing this data with third-party companies. The policy changes aim to boost revenue generation for the company but have raised concerns about user data privacy.

Under the new privacy policy, X will retain user data for an extended period to enhance services, with no set limit on how long the data will be stored. Previously, user data was kept for up to 18 months. The platform has also removed this 18-month limit from its policy.

Can Users Opt-Out?

Reports suggest that X may offer users an option to opt-out of data sharing via their settings. However, this feature is not yet available, and there’s no confirmed timeline for when the update will roll out. This potential feature would follow similar privacy controls offered by other platforms like Instagram and Facebook, which allow users to turn off tracking.

While the new policy aims to improve transparency around AI data usage, it also raises questions about how long user data will be kept and how it will be utilized in the future. With the growing use of AI across social media platforms, ensuring user privacy remains a significant concern.

If you're an X user, it’s essential to stay informed about these changes to safeguard your data and adjust your settings accordingly once the opt-out option becomes available.
