Food delivery giant Zomato has announced a major expansion of its services, now offering food delivery directly to passengers aboard trains. The service is available at more than 100 railway stations across India, marking a significant development in the company’s growth strategy.
Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting that the company has successfully completed over 1 million food deliveries on trains, a feat made possible through its partnership with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

How to Order Food on Trains with Zomato
To place an order for train delivery, passengers can use the Zomato app. In the delivery search bar, users simply need to type "train" and select the option for "Meals at Train Seat."
After entering the 10-digit PNR (Passenger Name Record) number, travelers can choose the station where they wish to have their food delivered. The app will display a list of available restaurants, allowing customers to select their meals, add them to the cart, and complete the payment.
Swiggy’s Similar Service
Zomato is not the only food delivery company offering this service. Earlier this year, Swiggy also partnered with IRCTC to deliver pre-ordered meals at select railway stations. This collaboration marks a growing trend of food delivery services integrating with the Indian railway system to enhance passenger convenience.
IRCTC’s Role in the Expansion
Established in 1999 by the Government of India, IRCTC operates under the Ministry of Railways and plays a pivotal role in the catering and tourism sectors. Its partnerships with companies like Zomato and Swiggy aim to improve passenger experiences by offering convenient access to quality food while traveling.
With both Zomato and Swiggy now delivering meals on trains, passengers have more options than ever before, making train travel more comfortable and enjoyable. This service is expected to grow further as more stations and restaurants join the network.
