Israel-Iran Conflict Intensifies: Iran Vows to Hold Israel Accountable for Senior Commander’s Assassination in Beirut

Tehran: Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a stern warning on Monday, vowing to hold Israel accountable for what it described as the “illegal assassination” of senior Iranian commander Abbas Nilforoushan in Beirut. Nilforoushan was killed on September 27 during an Israeli airstrike targeting Hezbollah’s headquarters in Dahieh, a southern suburb of the Lebanese capital. The strike also killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Iran Condemns Israel’s Actions as an Unforgivable Crime

The Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed strong condemnation over the assassination, calling it an unforgivable crime and warning that any compromise with Israeli aggressions would encourage further hostilities. Iran reaffirmed its commitment to using all available resources to hold Israel accountable for this attack, signaling a significant escalation in the already tense relationship between the two nations.

Funeral Arrangements for Abbas Nilforoushan

The body of Abbas Nilforoushan will be laid to rest in his hometown of Isfahan on Tuesday. A funeral ceremony will also be held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, to honor the slain commander. This comes as part of Iran’s official response to the assassination, which has ignited widespread anger across the country.

Iran’s Retaliatory Strikes Against Israel

Following the assassination, Iran launched approximately 180 missiles at Israel on October 1, in what Tehran described as retaliation for the killings of Nilforoushan, Hamas Politburo Chief Ismail Haniyeh, and Hezbollah’s Nasrallah. The missile strikes were also framed as a response to Israel’s alleged “malicious acts” in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, which Iran claims are backed by the United States.

Escalating Tensions in the Middle East

The assassination and subsequent missile strikes mark a further escalation in the conflict between Israel and Iran, raising concerns about the potential for broader regional instability. Both nations have been involved in a long-standing rivalry, with their hostilities often spilling over into neighboring countries like Lebanon and Syria.
