Locals in Guntur Loot Liquor Bottles During Police PR Event to Destroy Illicit Alcohol
A viral video has captured chaotic scenes from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, where locals clashed with the police in an attempt to seize liquor bottles that were about to be destroyed. Acting on orders from Guntur SP S. Satish Kumar, the police lined up alcohol worth over ₹50 lakh at the Nalla Cheruvu dumping yard on Monday. The liquor had been seized during the Assembly Elections.
While the police planned to destroy the bottles, news of the operation quickly spread, drawing a crowd of locals who descended on the spot, eager to snatch the bottles for themselves. Despite police efforts to prevent the looting, many in the crowd managed to grab bottles and flee.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, shows police officers attempting to stop the unruly crowd. When their warnings were ignored, officers resorted to using lathis (batons) to disperse the mob. However, some individuals were seen braving the beatings in their attempt to take home free alcohol. In one clip, a man is even seen negotiating with the police.

Although the police succeeded in making a few individuals return the stolen liquor, many others managed to escape with the bottles. An investigation has been launched to identify those involved in the theft.
The video sparked widespread amusement online, with social media users sharing the footage millions of times. Comments ranged from humor to disbelief, with one user writing, "The last guy literally debated two police officers and convinced them to allow him to leave with the bottle." Another quipped, "Locals thought they had organized a liquor langar."
The incident has drawn attention to the complexities law enforcement faces in managing large crowds, particularly in situations involving contraband.
