Ritika Thapar, a mother of two, has accused her husband, Dheeraj Thapar, of physical assault, dowry harassment, and issuing life threats. The couple had a love marriage 16 years ago, but Ritika now alleges that her husband has become a threat to her life. Following her complaint, the police registered an FIR and arrested Dheeraj, who is currently in custody.

The Love Marriage That Turned Sour

Timeline of the Marriage: Ritika and Dheeraj married on February 11, 2008, in an Arya Samaj temple. The marriage was officially registered on March 19, 2008.
Initial Problems: Ritika claims that shortly after their marriage, Dheeraj began making sarcastic comments, saying he regretted the love marriage and could have received a hefty dowry in an arranged marriage.

Allegations of Abuse and Dowry Demands

Ritika has accused Dheeraj of frequent physical assaults and continuous demands for dowry. She shared that in May 2008, her mother gave ₹5 lakh in cash, gifts, and jewelry to placate Dheeraj, but his behavior did not change.

Milestones Turned Bitter

When Ritika gave birth to their daughter in October 2010, Dheeraj resumed his taunts.
Even after the birth of their son in July 2017, the harassment did not stop. Her mother had to fulfill Dheeraj's demands by giving more gifts and money.

Separation and Assault in 2024

In July 2021, Ritika claims Dheeraj took away her belongings and forced her out of the house. She moved to Rameshwaram Apartments with her children. However, on December 3, 2024, Dheeraj allegedly entered her apartment and demanded she transfer ownership of two flats in her name to him.

Physical Assault: Ritika reported that Dheeraj abused her in front of their children, verbally assaulted her, and physically attacked her, including choking her and hitting her head against a car bonnet.
Police Action: Following the complaint, the police arrested Dheeraj.

The Fight Over Two Flats

According to the Gwalatoli Inspector, Ritika revealed that Dheeraj's primary motive is to gain ownership of the two flats registered in her name. Legal proceedings are ongoing, and Dheeraj remains in jail as investigations continue.
