Needle in the Haystack: Doctor Accidentally Leaves Surgical Needle Inside Woman's Head in Hapur!
In a troubling incident that has sparked outrage and raised serious concerns about the healthcare system in Uttar Pradesh, a doctor at a community health center in Hapur reportedly left a surgical needle inside the head of an 18-year-old woman after performing stitches on her injury.
The patient, identified as Sitara, was brought to the health center following a head injury sustained during a confrontation with neighbors. After assessing her condition, the doctor proceeded to stitch the wound, bandaged her head, and discharged her, sending her home with no indication of any complications.
However, shortly after returning home, Sitara began to experience excruciating pain. Her family quickly took her to a private hospital for further evaluation. There, doctors reopened the wound and were astonished to discover a surgical needle embedded within her head. Once the needle was removed, Sitara reportedly felt immediate relief.
The situation took a more alarming turn when Sitara’s mother alleged that the doctor who performed the surgery was under the influence of alcohol during the procedure. "We don't want anyone to go through this. We want action," she stated, emphasizing the need for accountability in the case. She even presented the extracted needle as evidence of the medical negligence.
Dr. Sunil Tyagi, the Chief Medical Officer for Hapur district, confirmed awareness of the incident and announced that an investigation would be conducted by a two-member team. "As soon as we get a report, we will take action," he said, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.
When asked about the family’s claim regarding the doctor’s alleged intoxication, Dr. Tyagi denied the assertion, stating, "There is no such doctor in the district. And the doctor in this case does not drink at all."
