PM Narendra Modi Laos visit

In a diplomatic dash that promises to be as lively as a Laotian marketplace, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gearing up for a two-day visit to Laos from October 10 to 11, where he will dive into the vibrant discussions at the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit. This exciting news was shared by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Invited by his Laotian counterpart, Sonexay Siphandone, PM Modi will set foot in Vientiane for these significant summits, where the stakes are high, and the tea (or perhaps coffee) is bound to be strong! Laos, currently holding the ASEAN chair, is ready to host leaders from across Asia, making this event a hotspot for international relations.

According to the MEA, the ASEAN-India Summit will not just be a stroll down memory lane but will also evaluate the progress of India-ASEAN relations through the lens of their "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership." Additionally, discussions will pave the way for future collaborations, making it a pivotal moment for all involved.

But wait, there’s more! PM Modi is also expected to engage in bilateral meetings on the sidelines of these grand summits, further emphasizing the importance of India’s relationships in the region. As the MEA highlights, this year marks a decade of India’s "Act East Policy," and relationships with ASEAN nations are central to that initiative, alongside India's vision for the Indo-Pacific.

The East Asia Summit, a forum led by leaders aimed at fostering strategic trust in the region, will provide a platform for Modi and other leaders to exchange views on pressing regional issues.
