Security forces have prevented a major tragedy on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway in Baramulla district by detecting and neutralizing an improvised explosive device (IED). The IED was planted in Palpora Pattan, presumably to target security convoys traveling on the busy highway.

How the IED Was Found

The IED was discovered by the 29 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) road-opening party during routine highway checks.
It was hidden in a bag kept near an orchard by suspected militants.
Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned immediately to check and dispose of the explosive device.

IED Neutralized Safely

The bomb disposal team suspected the device to be a pressure IED. The team defused it safely and destroyed it by controlled explosion with sandbags.

Precautionary Measures Taken

Traffic on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway was stopped as a precautionary measure.
The road was opened to normal traffic after the IED was destroyed.

Highway Security and Threats

Srinagar-Baramulla highway witnesses heavy movement of security forces. It is suspected that the IED was planted to target security vehicles. However, the swift action of the forces prevented a major catastrophe.
