A white and huge diamond of 1,174-carat stone has been unearthed in Botswana. A mining company announced on Wednesday. This is second huge precious stone found in the country after last month.
This exceptionally big diamond was discovered on June 12 by Canadian Diamond firm Lucara. Then it was presented to Botswana’s cabinet in the capital Gaborone on Wednesday.
Moreover, this diamond is in third position among the world’s largest gemstones. In June only Botswanan diamond firm Debswana had also recovered the ‘third largest stone’ in the world at 1,098-carats.
The precious also find solidifies Botswana as a leader on the world stage of the largest stones. The biggest diamond ever discovered in the world was the 3,106-carat Cullinan. It was found in South Africa in 1905.
Parts of that diamond now adorn the British crown jewels. Botswana accounts for six in the top 10 list. It is Africa’s leading diamond producer.
