6.5 Quake leaves 11 dead, over 100 injured in Pakistan and Afghanistan

On Tuesday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 rocked Pakistan and Afghanistan, sending terrified citizens fleeing from their homes and places of business. According to the Associated Press, at least 11 individuals killed in Afghanistan and Pakistan. A representative for Pakistan’s emergency services reported that more than 100 patients were taken to hospitals in the Swat valley area.

The spokeswoman said, “These fearful people collapsed, and some of them collapsed because of the stress of the earthquake.

  • The epicentre of the earthquake was in Afghanistan.

  • Pakistani media sources, some residential structures in Islamabad have developed cracks.
  • At least two individuals died and another 20 others had injuries, according to Taliban spokesman Sharafat Zaman Amar, who was chosen to represent the public health ministry.
  • Because the earthquake was so strong, he stated, “Unfortunately, there could be additional casualties, in most sections of the country.”
  • The magnitude 6.5 earthquake’s epicentre was located 40 kilometres (25 miles) south-southeast of Jurm in Afghanistan’s hilly Hindukush area, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
  • According to USGS, the earthquake occurred 188 kilometres (116 miles) beneath the Earth’s surface in an area that borders Pakistan and Tajikistan.
  • Shahbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, stated that he has instructed emergency management personnel to exercise caution in the event of an emergency following the earthquake.
  • The Taliban’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, stated that all medical facilities were prepared.
