Myanmar’s military took centre stage and detained several key figures of the country on Monday. Myanmar’s de facto leader Aung San Suu Kyi among others have been detained followed by a coup. Only ten years back, the military had handed over the power to a civilian government.

The military coup was apparently a response to the fraud in last year’s November elections. Aung San Suu Kyi’s party National League for Democracy (NLD) had won by a landslide.

Furthermore, a state of emergency is now imposed for one year in Myanmar after the military took over the country. The world reacted surprisingly to the news of a military coup in Burma.

Moreover, this goes against not only human rights but also the democratic spirits.

Here’s world reaction to the military coup in Burma:

The armed forces of Myanmar have also confirmed the reports of a coup d’etat since 1962.

US President Joe Biden also threatened to slap new sanctions on the country after the coup detentions.

India’s foreign ministry also expressed deep concern at the military coup in the country.
“We have noted the developments in Myanmar with deep concern,” the statement said.

“India believes that the rule of law and the democratic process must be upheld. We are monitoring the situation closely.”
