Bangladesh Arrests ISKCON Leader Chinmoy Krishna Das for Protesting Against Hindu Persecution

ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested in Bangladesh on sedition charges for protesting against alleged atrocities on Hindus. Sources say he was detained at Dhaka Airport after a rally held on November 22 in Rangpur wherein he condemned attacks on Hindus and accused the government of divisive policies.

Now, Interim government of Mohammad Yunus, Jamaat-e-Islam and others have been accused of targeting Hindu minorities and members of ISKCON. Chinmoy Krishna Das had issued earlier alerts regarding temple safety, following which there were attacks on ISKCON temples in Meherpur and several others were threatened in Chattogram. He said several Hindus feel unsafe and are crossing over to India via West Bengal and Tripura.

It's not the first case against him; in October, the Bangladeshi government charged Chinmoy Krishna Das and 19 other leaders of Hindu organizations with sedition. The arrests have evoked controversy over the safety of the minorities and raised questions on freedom of expression in the country.
