It was a sight of vandalism as at least 20 homes of Hindus were set on fire in Bangladesh.

The sabotage was prompted by an alleged blasphemous social media post amid protests by the minority community of Bangladesh against temple vandalism during Durga Puja.

As per media reports, the arson attack took place on Sunday in a village not very far away from Dhaka.

These reports of arson come at a crucial time when there is rising communal tension over an alleged blasphemy at a Durga Puja venue in Cumilla in the Chittagong division.

This had even led to attacks on Hindu temples; clashes between vandals and the police broke out in Cumilla, Chandpur, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Moulvibazar, Gazipur, and other districts.

So far, police have arrested dozens of accused over the attacks and the spread of communal hatred on social media.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has promised a quick probe and justice into the matter. She added that anyone involved in the attacks on Hindu temples and Durga Puja venues in Cumilla will not be spared.

The incidents in Cumilla are being probed. Sheikh Hasina promised action against the culprits while exchanging greetings with the Hindu community members during an event at Dhakeshwari National Temple in Dhaka.
