China and Canada have a running history of clashing with one another. Canada has always openly criticised China of its malicious activities against the Uighur minority.
Both the countries have clashed in recent months. Also, Canada and China have imposed sanctions on each other.
Justin Trudeau Sunday was recently insulted by China’s consul general to Rio de Janeiro, Li Yang. He blamed Trudeau for the diplomatic crisis.
Li’s comments are often combative. He keeps commenting on the gun violence, the legacy of slavery in the United States and the treatment of asylum seekers. This time it is Justin Trudeau.
The comments come as Canada, the United States, United Kingdom and European Union escalated their criticism of China on the treatment of Uighur Muslims.
Recently, the group of nations imposed sanctions on Chinese officials over human rights abuses.
China retaliated by slapping counter sanctions on Canadian opposition lawmaker Michael Chong. He is also a staunch critic of human rights abuses in Xinjiang region.
