Deadly Night in Querétaro: 10 Killed in Bar Shooting as Violence Escalates in Mexico
QUERÉTARO, Mexico — A violent shooting at a popular bar in the Mexican city of Querétaro has killed at least 10 people and injured many others late Friday night. According to local reports, armed attackers stormed into a bar and opened fire on patrons and staff without any warning. Whether the attack is connected with the ongoing regional clashes which have been beleaguering the area in the past few days are also under investigations by the authorities. The bar, a very popular venue among the locals and visitors alike, became a deadly ambush site after the barbaric attack left the community shaken to its very core.
The attack occurred on 9 November, when at least four gunmen stormed the building and opened fire without any discrimination. Nine other people were injured in the shooting, which is thought to have been a targeted attack linked to growing violence in the area.

Investigation is under way
Police have cordoned off the scene and launched an extensive investigation into the shooting. The officers are questioning witnesses and checking CCTV recordings from the shop on both sides. So far, there is no apparent motive for the attack, but spiking violence in the area-probably last week's triple murder at that seafood restaurant-will likely fuel the crime.
The area has since been raised in security, with police efforts concentrated on tracking down the perpetrators of this incident. While investigations continue, local businesses and public transportation may affected by the high security measures put in place.
Ongoing Violence in the Region
This attack comes in the wake of increased violence raging in Querétaro: within the last fortnight, at least 13 people were killed and as many as 30 wounded by shootings. The city has long been one of Mexico's safest cities, but this latest violence has started worrying residents and authorities alike.
It speaks volumes of pressure that is mounted on the local government to act on its security concerns. The city remains in so many wars about criminal groups turf and needs to grapple over this reputation. The on-going violence speaks about persistent fragility that Mexico continues to face in its fight against organized crime and in ensuring safety in its borders.
Meanwhile, the public waits anxiously for answers to perturbing questions as the investigation on this deadly attack continues.
