France Monday recalled 15 of its diplomats from Pakistan after the violent clashes in Lahore. The clashes involved a banned group TLP that has been demanding the expulsion of the French envoy over the publication of Prophet Mohammed’s cartoons.

The banned outfit Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) organised violent protests while challenging the Pak authorities.

15 French diplomats and aides have already left Pakistan. Many are set to return to Paris over the next few days as per reports.

Last week France advised its nationals in Pakistan to temporarily leave the country following the violent anti-France protests by TLP.

This recall may further deteriorate diplomatic ties between Paris and Islamabad. Moreover, Pak PM Imran Khan has also been highly critical of Macron’s policies.

The government representatives met TLP leaders for talks Sunday. They have been demanding the release of 11 policemen.
