Heavy rains lash Nepal and Bhutan, landslides claim several lives

Heavy monsoon rains have triggered flash floods in Bhutan. Recently, a remote mountain camp was washed away in Bhutan, killing 10 people and injuring five.

While floods in Nepal left at least three dead and seven missing, as per sources.

Villagers in Bhutan and Nepal go to high meadows every year to collect cordyceps. These are believed to have potential health benefits.

Villagers were camping by the side of a small stream between two small hills. In Nepal seven people were missing after overnight rains in Sindhupalchowk district.

The concerned authorities have been urging people living along the Narayani river to remain alert as the river was flowing above the danger mark.

More than three days of rainfall caused the Melamchi river to rise. It has swept away several houses and damaging bridges in two municipalities northeast of Kathmandu.

Reports of heavy rains have been coming from Nepal and Bhutan from the last three days. This comes as the annual monsoon season begins.
