One such case has come from the Minnesota couple, who claim against the urology practice that its staff led them to an unintended pregnancy after seeking a vasectomy, where the procedure was allegedly performed, but the staff of the urology told them that it was already effective.

According to a report by the Huffington Post, the case was heard by a Minnesota state court this past Monday. The couple is claiming damages for raising their child.

In 2023, Steven and Megan filed a lawsuit for costs incurred on the child. According to court documents, a nurse at Minnesota Urology, Jennifer Whelchel, who then worked there in 2018, erroneously reported that Steven's vasectomy was successful.

Megan said at the end of the procedure, when she received test results from the nurse after doing the procedure, she got the results that the vasectomy was successful. After two years of discovering her pregnancy, she was 15 weeks pregnant at the time.

According to Megan, the family had already produced three children whom she and her husband raised when she was told that she would have to go through with a vasectomy on Steven. The couple was reassured by Jennifer Whelchel, nurse, about the success of the surgery carried out in May 2019. Almost four years on, in March 2023, she found she was 15 weeks pregnant.
