On February 1, 2021, Myanmar’s military seized power in a coup. This led to protests and violence in Myanmar. Zwar Minn has been calling out for the release of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Also, so far more than 500 people including children have been killed. The military junta Tatmadaw is brutally attacking the pro-democracy protesters. Tatmadaw is silencing all those demanding a return to power of elected leader Ms Suu Kyi and her party.
As per reports, Myanmar’s ambassador Zwar Minn described Wednesday’s events as a kind of coup, in the middle of London.
Moreover, the ambassador is a former military colonel. Myanmar (Burma) became independent from Britain in 1948. It has been under military rule for most of the time.
India and other countries have condemned the violence in Myanmar. India among others maintains that the country stands for the restoration of democracy in Myanmar. Moreover, this comes after much delay about its stand on the regime change in the neighbouring country.
This also comes in the wake of Myanmar nationals who are fleeing violence and coming to India’s border areas to cross over. Apart from politics, diplomacy is also suffering in Myanmar. The Ambassador’s treatment manifests Myanmar military junta’s brutal behaviour towards all.
Furthermore, the Centre had asked all Myanmar-bordering states to block the entry of Myanmar nationals.
