Nigeria schoolboys freed after forces search for 300 kidnapped girls

As many as 27 teenage boys were released by an unknown armed group on February 27, 2021. This comes almost a week after the boys were abducted from their school in the north-central state of Nigeria.

At the same time, a search operation was also carried out by the security forces to find over 300 schoolgirls abducted from the nearby state.

Schools have become a preferred target of armed groups in Northern Nigeria. Whenever they need money, they abduct school students for ransom.

An armed group had abducted many people including 27 students, 3 staff, and 12 members of their families from Government Science Secondary School in Kagara district under Niger state on February 17, 2021.

According to the sources, the boys were spotted after their release. While some of them were struggling to stand, others seemed to ask for water.

This release comes a day after the abduction of 317 girls from a school in Zamfara State.

“These ones…are already after ransom, so I know and believe that the government settles with them, they will be able to release our daughters,” Lawal Muhammed, one of those who were released by the unknown armed group, said.
