Pope Francis will hold a historic meeting with Shia cleric in his landmark trip to Iraq.
Pope’s this meeting will take place in Najaf. It will be the first-ever papal visit to Iraq. He will meet Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.
There Pope Francis will join the Shia cleric for talks. These will focus on inter-faith issues such as Iraq’s Christian minority, who have been hit by waves of violence since the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq.
Some 10,000 Iraqi Security Forces will be deployed to protect the Pope during this visit.
Some Shia militant groups have been opposing the visit.
