President Biden bars Trump from intelligence briefings

Former US President Donald Trump would be barred from receiving the traditional intelligence briefings because he could not be trusted, incumbent President Joe Biden said on February 5, 2021. He also said Trump can’t be trusted because of his erratic behavior before January 6 attack on the Capitol building.

It is for the first time when a former President is being cut out of the briefings. Former Presidents receive these briefings as a courtesy and part of the complete transition. President Former Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and George W Bush, and Barack Obama get daily briefings regularly.

In his latest interaction with CBS News professional Norah O’Donnell, said that Trump’s behavior worried him “unrelated to the insurrection” that gave rise to the second impeachment of Trump.

“I just think that there is no need for him to have the intelligence briefings,’’ Biden said. “What value is giving him an intelligence briefing? What impact does he have at all, other than the fact he might slip and say something?” he said.

Earlier this week, the White House said that it had been checking if the former president needs to get new briefings.
